This type of RFID installation is for a basic tracking system with no RTLS capability (Real Time Location System). This basic information is typically "Item is in the area" or "Item has left the area".

An example of this would be if you wished to track shipping and receiving. Know when your packages arrive and when they leave the building.

This configuration will provide notification that tagged items are in the building but will not tell you where they are inside the building.

The layout above shows the basic setup for a RFID system. This system includes:

• 1 RFID Reader. Range for the reader is up to 1500 feet.
• 1 RFID Server with a built-in Collector and Concentrator. This can connect to the reader via a wireless or wired connection. A wired connection is typical for a basic setup.

The functions of this setup are very simple - "tag is here" - "tag is not here". The server is also set with a minimal update refresh on all the tags. Basically if you wanted to know if the item you are tracking is in a warehouse, you would see this. It will also tell you when a tag has left the area, this includes time and date.
