Radio Frequency Identification Tag

The standard tag is approximately one third the size of a business card, and can vary in thickness depending on the housing.

Customized tags can be developed in a number of different form factors and for a variety of functions. For instance, they may incorporate tamper proof circuitry, motion detection, or can be equipped with buttons that can be activated in case of personal emergency. Tags also runs on a low, out-of-the-way frequency. This avoids the very busy 2.4GHZ like on the popular cordless phone and wireless internet connections. Battery life on a RFID tag is up to 5 years.

How it works
  1. RFID Tags: Each item you wish to track will have an individual tag, coded with an ID. Each tag ID can be set with a description of the item in the server. Each tag will send information every 1 second when it's in motion or every 15 seconds when sitting still.
  2. Receiver: All information sent from the tags goes to the receiver. Depending on the size of your area - you may need several receivers.
  3. Collector: Information from the receiver then travels into the collector. This can be via wireless or wired. The collector captures the information - "collecting".
  4. Concentrator: The concentrator takes the collected information and sorts everything into order.
  5. RFID Server: The server will use the information from the concentrator and set it to be viewed in the interface. Steps 3, 4 and 5 can be on the same machine depending on the scale of the system.. On a very basic RFID setup this is typically what you will see.
  6. Interface: At this point all that information collecting and sorting will now be placed in a very easy to read and understand interface. This interface can also be setup on your own business network or a stand-alone machine. You can even use this interface via an internet connection. The interface can be viewed in a web browser. Keep an eye on your assets or personnel from the comfort of your home or hotel room - anywhere in the world with an internet connection!
What can I track with RFID?

You can pretty much keep track of anything you can attach a tag to;

  • People: Keep track of personnel, patients, children or elderly. Want to be sure all employee's are where they are suppose to be? RFID can tell you this. Want to make sure children are in their rooms during class? RFID can tell you this. There are many possibilities with RFID and people tracking.
  • Assets: Keep track of your valuable assets by attaching a RFID tag to them. Tools, Computer equipment, hospital equipment, crates and pallets. Know when and where your items are - or when and where they left the area.
  • Security: RFID can strengthen your "Authorized Personnel Only" area's.
How much is it??

It will depend on the configuration you choose. Listed below are the steps toward completing a cost estimate

  • Autocad Blueprint of the building
  • How much area you want covered
  • What's to be tracked
  • Total number of tags
  • Environmental conditions
  • Network Connection - Wired or Wireless
  • How fast you would like updates on your ID's
  • You will need a site survey completed to receive a complete quote. We will deduct the cost of the site survey from the final quote if you wish to continue with the installation and setup of your RFID system.
How will I benefit from RFID?

There are many ways you can benefit. For example:

  • Eliminate time searching for assets. Wasted time costs money.
  • Lack of information of what supplies are on hand. Know what you have!
  • Access control and Security
  • Shipping and Receiving
  • Inventory Management
  • Reduce loss due to theft

Here's an example with the Health Care System:

The healthcare industry is plagued with rising operating costs and dwindling profits, even as more people are visiting
hospitals than ever before. This puts more pressure on healthcare professionals to maintain a high level of service
while also looking for ways to cut costs. RFID can provide a real-time location system that can help control costs, increase profits and provide a higher level of service to patients, all at an affordable cost.
